Aid Work

Voluntary Dental Aid Work in India

Almost every year Dr. Nupur Hackwood, along with other Australian health professionals and tradespeople, travels to India to provide voluntary aid in a rural village in Katwa, India (about 30km north of Kolkata).

Nupur has been doing dental aid work for several years now alongside the host organisation in Katwa called Anandaniketan which is an orphange as well as a home for the physically and mentally challenged individual.

In October 2007, friends of Anglo Coal Australia (who her husband John worked for) organised a charity ball at which a substantial amount of money was raised to help set up a dental clinic for the poor and needy in the region.  Amongst items purchased were two dental chairs, compressor, suction, autoclave, ultrasonic machines, handpieces and the money raised also paid for the fitout of the dental clinic.

The Lion's Club Redland Bay/Victoria Point also donated some money with which we purchased dental materials and minor hand instruments. Many patients of the practice donate generously to help the orphange directly or to help set up/run the dental clinic.
